Bangladesh Cyclone death toll at 2,000

Cyclone Sidr hit Bangladesh this week as a category 4 cyclone, with wind speeds up to 150 miles per hour.  The Asian country is poverty-ridden, which makes aid all the more challenging.  Bangladesh is low-lying which makes it susceptible to flooding, this is what demolished the rice crops.  Organizations such as the U.S. Agency for Internation Development (USAID), Save the Children, World Vision, and the Red Crescent airlifted supplies to the area of question, and are aiding those in need.  Sadly, the death toll  is expected to rise as bodies are uncovered from debris.

Husband viewed as a suspect in wife’s disappearance.

Stacy Peterson, wife of Sgt. Drew Peterson went missing while going to visit her sister on a Sunday morning.  She is the fourth wife of Sgt. Drew Peterson, and the couple have two young children.  However, speculations arose when the mysterious bath tub drowning death of Peterson’s third wife was reviewed.  Since then the body of the third wife has been exhumed, and a medical examiner revealed that her death was in fact no accident.  This comes upon the news that Drew Peterson was named a suspect in his wife’s disappearance.  He claims that she ran away with another man, and is very much alive.  Friends and relatives of Stacy beg to differ, claiming she continually told them that if she went missing, Drew killed her.

ECONOMY

Mortgage troubles, credit woes, soaring gas prices, and continued inflation of the U.S. dollar continue to trouble the economy.  Gas is expected to jump $.22 per gallon at the pump, as the price per barrel skyrockets to nearly $100.  Product recalls have put a dent into product and retailer revenue.  Lead paint discovered in beloved toys, and the ‘date rape drug’ found in the popular ‘Aqua Dots’ craft.  These issues have many Americans questioning if the country is going into a recession.

POLITICS

A year from this month America will elect a new president.

DEMOCRATS:While the Republicans are cooling down after taking jabs at one another back in September, the Democrats are following in the same sorry footsteps.  The most prominent mudslingers- Obama and Edwards, had made the vow to run a quote “clean” campaign at the beginning of the 2007.  However, politics have corrupted their innocent views, as Hilary Clinton is their target of choice.  Clinton response to the ongoing jabs is that Democrats should target Republicans instead of one another.

REPUBLICANS:As Republicans jab Hillary Clinton, already deemed 2008 Democratic candidate (hence the jabs taken at her by Obama and Edwards), Rudolph Giuliani is the esteemed 2008 GOP candidate.  With the support of a certain televangelist, Giuliani is proving to the GOP to be the quintessence of an old-fashion, stuck to his values, conservative.  We must keep in mind however; that Mr. Giuliani married is mistress.  Mitt Romney is facing a hard time keeping up to the front runner, being a Mormon and flip-flopping on abortion rights.  John McCain is once again running out of funds, a repeat of 2000.

PRESIDENT BUSH:

President Bush concluded that middle-class Americans are not to be hit with the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).  Vowing to veto a bill that includes this tax, as the Congress left for Thanksgiving vacation.  Bush’s pick for attorney general, General Michael Mukasey, was sworn into the position this month.  The president ordered for nonessential maintenance projects at airports to be delayed, as workers gear-up for the Thanksgiving travel rush.  This motion will reduce air delays, freeing up the skies and airports, making holiday travel a bit less hectic.
